Options to display Links on SharePoint sites

There are three primary ways to display links to pages or content on SharePoint sites and pages.  Please use the table below to determine which method will work the best for your needs.  We also have a different article on how to Display a list or images of people on a page.

Used on multiple pages? Yes, since it’s an App it can be added to multiple pages on the site. Yes, since it’s an App it can be added to multiple pages on the site. No, since it’s a webpart it can’t be re-used on multiple pages.
Primary Orientation Horizontal, across the page. Vertical, displays as a list. Vertical, links are stacked on top of one another.
Specify order Yes, you can reorder the links. Yes, you can reorder the links. Yes, you can reorder the links.
Advantages Displays as nice graphical links with both title and description area. Can specify for links to open in a new tab or current window. Provides a simple links list. Many options on how to display the links (with icons, as bullets, title and description, etc). Can specify for links to open in a new tab or current window.
Disadvantages Have to find image to go along with each link.  Since links display horizontally OOTB, will have to page to view long lists of links. Can’t include images with your links.  Can’t specify to open links in a new window.  The summary view only shows the link title, doesn’t include the description. Links can’t be re-used on multiple pages.
